The month of May has always been my family’s favorite month. We have 5 birthday celebrants (Tita Jopad, Tita Maybelle, Uncle Craig, Nicole and Dad) and so we would usually have one grand birthday celebration for everyone. My parents said they decided to hold this year’s celebration in tagaytay and make it truly special because it was my tita jopad’s 50th birthday.
And so the date was set, May 4 (Sunday), dinner at Hacienda Isabella.
I made a birthday video for my tita, while my mom bought gifts and we were set for the family event.
On the way to tagaytay I started thinking of the last time I was there on my birthday. My barkada then planned a special trip to tagaytay (even if there was a signal#3 typhoon that day). I missed my friends and I missed marco. It had been years since we last spent my birthday together. He had been in japan since 2006 and the long distance relationship we had was getting harder and harder each day.
Once we arrived at the hacienda, the caretaker took my mom and me to a room, a holding area he said (I thought he was giving us a tour of the place). They called the holding area the Narnia room (because it had a huge closet similar to that from the movie).
At the end of the room was a table with a laptop. My first thoughts were: “ah someone was occupying the room so we shouldn’t stay long here” but as I walked closer towards the table, I saw a familiar name on the laptop. “jayjay lucas” I said. “jayjay lucas? What’s this? What’s this?” I kept repeating.
An instruction on the laptop said “press space” and so I did. Then marco appeared on the screen requesting that I be alone in the room. I did not even notice my mom leave the room and while a part of me wasn’t surprised, my head was spinning and my heart was beating fast. You see days ago marc spilled that he was making a birthday video for me. And so I thought “ah, this is the birthday video and he asked my barkada to show it to me.”
And so I watched the video. It showed him singing ‘grow old with you’.That too did not surprise me because he always sang to me…
It showed him with his church friends and pinoy friends in japan singing a few lines.“ah, just as he said, my birthday video will be with his friends in japan”
but the next few scenes totally caught me by surprise…
I froze… my heart started beating fast, and my body started shaking..
…. marco was in an airport…
…. then the next scene showed him inside the plane.
and then he was with his family.
and then he was with my family.
now my mind was confused.. “What’s this? What’s this?” I kept on muttering
and then I heard the door open behind me and there he was….
singing the last few lines of the song…
and then I started crying.
I was in shock, I couldn’t believe what was happening; he was actually here in the Philippines! I hugged him so hard just to make sure he was really there.
And then he went down on one knee..
My head was still spinning, my heart racing, my body shaking and the tears wouldn’t stop falling so that I did not even hear him propose.
And then he was looking at me expecting for an answer..
and I couldn’t say anything.
He said “it’s okay, I can wait right here the entire afternoon”
And the first thing I said was “do my parents know about this? Did they give their blessings?”
and he answered “yes, kaya nga ako nandito eh”
And I laughed and said “yes!”
And that was it… ^_^ our Paparazzi’s captured every moment.
God was clearly in control from the beginning up until this moment and we felt God’s presence, His blessing and His love upon us…
I remember my dad saying “what got me about Marco was that he was willing to wait upon God”
And that’s another story which I will leave for my fiancé to tell.. ^_^

Hi Marco and Nicole.
The last time I saw Marco, he was still a kid and it was years ago and I never got to see him again since I left the Philippines last 2001 and even during my 2005 vacation, I’m not sure if I was able to see him, except for Tito Sam, Tita Minne, and Zanne.
From time to time, I visit the websites of my friends and I’ve found Marco’s. I am blessed by his life and how the Lord has been working in Him. Marco has been a good son to his family. So, Nicole, I know that God has touched both of your hearts to be one for the rest of your lives. Continue to trust God in every detail. Trials will come, but don’t let them bog you down, but may these trials strengthen the both of you and draw you closer to Jesus. Always stay at the center of God’s will. You have the rest of your life to get to know each other.
